| Alvaro Mendoza Garcia was born in Mexico City on February 3, 1952. He spent his childhood in Tonala Chiapas, the place he traces his roots back to and draws his artistic inspiration from. Mendoza inherited his artistic ability from his grandfather, but perfected his technique under the tutelage of Jose Samano Torres and at institutions such as Centro Docente de Grabado del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes and Taller de Grafica Popular. Mexican art is his primary influence but colonial architecture and the Mexican landscape also inspire him. Mendoza's style is realistic and his work reflects the subtleties of light and shadow, the wonder of architecture at its simplest, the beauty of a balcony imbued by the magic of sunlight. His pieces are acrylic or oil on canvas or oil on wood. Mendoza has participated in over 100 exhibits in Mexico and his work can be found at several galleries in Mexico City, Spain and the US, and also in private collections. One of the crowning moments in his career as an artist has been the inclusion of his work in a book honoring the anniversary of Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX). The artist currently resides in Mexico City with his wife, children and grandchildren. |
