| David Cesar Villalba Quispe was born on November 29, 1967 in Arequipa, Peru. He attended the School of Fine Art (Carlos Baca Flor) from 1987 to 1991. He has received several awards of merit and distinctions, including Honorable Mention XXXI Salon Nacional de Acuarela, Cultural Institute of Peru/North America in 2003, 2002 & 1997; First Prize, X Concurso Nacional de Pintura Coca Cola, Trujillo; 2001 Concurso Nacional Nueva Vision de la Acuarela, Honorable Mention, 2001. Recent exhibitions include "Luces del Sur", University of the Sacred Heart, Lima; "La Acuarela Arequipena de Hoy", Banco Wiese Sudameris, Trujillo; showing at the Alliance Francaise, Arequipa; Night of Art, United States Embassy, Lima. Villalba's strong contemporary paintings attempt to convey his views of the world, translated into works of art with dark, bold imagery. "One may read many things in my work," says Villalba. "I want it to be open to individual interpretation." |
